• Outdated Technology – Many of the older machines do not have the features of new machines, which may limit your abilities and thus your profits. Many times you can find a good deal on a used machine, but it's better to buy your first machine new, so that you can avoid the pitfalls listed above. Once you develop some experience with embroidery, you will be much better equipped to make the right decisions about used equipment. If you do choose to investigate used machinery, work with a certified dealer as they usually refurbish machines before selling them. Choosing Embroidery Software Just as important as the embroidery machine is the software that will allow you to setup and run your embroidery designs. There is a wide variety of software possibilities from basic lettering to complex digitizing. You need to review each level to determine what best fits your needs. One solution is to buy a multi-level software system such as the one developed by Pulse Microsystems. This allows you to buy only what you need today and then add on more advanced levels as your business grows, thereby providing maximum flexibility for growth and investment. Also be aware that the Software is separate from the machine and is installed on a stand-alone computer. Each embroidery machine has a microprocessor for reading Embroidery designs from a USB Flash Drie or LAN conenction, but you cannot setup lettering, merge designs, or digitize at the machine. Visit www.pulsemicro.com for more information about embroidery design software. Just like with machine, you want to make sure you are purchasing the latest technology. You can buy used software, but chances are you will be getting something that is outdated and technologically inferior. For example, only the latest versions of a few select software systems offer Vector Based Embroidery digitizing. This is a tremendous breakthrough in digitizing technology that allows more precise designs to be created with less effort than traditional methods. But this isn't just a fancy new gadget to play with, it is a profitable tool for your company. For example, if you normally charge a flat fee of $75.00 for digitizing a cap logo, and you are able to do 10 per day on average, then that's a potential revenue of $750.00 per day. But if by adding in a feature that improved your output to 15 designs per day, that yields $1125.00 per day, which is a significant increase in earnings through the simple application of advanced digitizing technology.* *There are many different pricing scenarios for digitizing. The numbers here are used for reference only and do not represent suggested prices. www.hsi.us care@hsi.us 24
