Thread Break Troubleshooting Guide 1. Check thread path from the cone to the needle. 2. Thread the needle again and check the tension. (Loosen it a bit.) 3. Is the needle inserted correctly with the eye directly in front? Proceed Sewing. Second Thread Break on Same Design: 4. Repeat steps 1 and 2. If no problem, check the tension on the bobbin. Is it too tight? Is it running low? Is it spinning close? Brush out lint and reinsert into machine. 5. Look at your design. Is the density too high? Does the pattern sew over a previously sewn area? Is it trying to sew a very narrow column stitch? If the answers to these questions are "No", then: 6. Change the needle. It may have a burr or a worn down point. Make sure it is the correct size and type. Proceed Sewing. Third Thread Break on the Same Design: 7. Repeat steps 1 and 2. If no problem, look at your thread. Are you using a high quality machine embroidery thread? Is it getting old? Have you had trouble with this certain color before? Try pulling several yards off the cone. Proceed Sewing. Fourth Thread Break on the Same Design: 8. Repeat steps 1 and 2. 9. Change to a different cone of thread If you continue to have thread breaks: 10. Change the bobbin. Use one with preferably high quality, pre- wound polyester thread. If thread breaks still occur: 11. Is the needle very close or rubbing against the presser foot? Is there a burr on the presser foot? 12. Is there a burr on the edge of the hole in the needle plate? Is the needle going straight through the middle of the needle plate hole? If you're sure the cause is not the type of fabric you're sewing on or any of the above, then: 13. Check the restraining finger that holds the hook assembly. Is it positioned properly? Refer to operator's manual. 14. Check the timing and needle depth. Refer to operator's manual. Important Note: www.hsi.us care@hsi.us 219
