public, especially if its your own logo. Always look for that extra edge in the promotional game. 3. Present A Potential Client With His Logo Or Something Close. Another tool for promoting your business, involves setting up a potential customers logo, and then presenting it to him. Of course, if you can't digitize, your options are limited but not totally zero. Even though we do have digitizing capabilities, I usually just set-up a stock design and lettering that I think will catch the clients attention and then sew it on something that would probably appeal to him. For example, with Tackle Shops, we combine one of our (original) fish designs with the name of the Business, and sew it on a cap. We then drop by the shop and present it as a free gift to the owner. We make a sale 99% of the time. In some cases it involves the "created" logo, in other cases the customer pays to have his actual logo digitized. 4. Attach Garment Labels With Your Business Name And Number. All of today's clothing has labels stating Brand Name, Fiber Content, Country of Origin, etc. And believe it or not, people still read them. So wouldn't it be neat if your Business name was on the label? It can be done. Its quite simple (and inexpensive) to have custom fabric labels made with your business name and phone number. Then its up to you to attach them into your merchandise. It can be done several ways. First of all, labels can be purchased with "heat seal" backing. You would apply these using something like an appliqué iron. The second method involves sewing the tags in. Somewhat more difficult, but possible. The best idea for using the sewn-in labels is to have the manufacturer do it for you. Check with your favorite company or look for a manufacturer that offers private labeling. You can also use a variation of garment labels called hang tags. These are usually attached to the outside of the garment by using a special gun and plastic hangers. Hang tags are not permanent and are usually removed soon after purchase. However, consumers typically read them because of their size and prominence. 5. Free Gifts With An Order. Everybody loves a freebie! Anytime a customer places an order, consider throwing in an additional item, embroidered with his logo, as a free gift. They will really appreciate the freebie, and will also be exposed to other product ideas. The most common scenario is a free cap thrown in with an order of shirts. Just be sure that the cap style is one that would appeal to the customer. If not, it will probably be a wasted effort. But you can also consider other items such as aprons, CD cases, tote bags, golf tee bags, etc. This works especially well with the Corporate markets. They are always looking for something new to use for their promotional efforts. 6. Harness The Power Of The Press. You can get a lot of (free) coverage out of the Newspaper if you are willing to make the effort. Most local Papers reserve a certain amount of space for "human www.hsi.us care@hic.us 111
