So the next time you have an oops, don't rush for those fix-it tools first thing. Analyze the mistake and the possible solutions, then make your decision. And while you are at it, make sure you determine what went wrong in the first place and correct that problem too. Helpful Hints What's the best way to remove a logo? One simple method requires a double-bladed disposable razor, a curved surface, and a pair of tweezers. Turn the garment inside-out and place the front portion of the logo against a curved surface. By using the curved surface, you will only be able to cut a small portion of the threads at a time, which will ensure that you don't damage the garment. Rake the razor across the backside of the logo gently, but firmly. With a little practice you can safely cut all the way down to the backing. Then flip the garment over and pick out the top threads with tweezers. One other note, the razors get dull very fast! It usually takes 1 razor per logo. (Another method is to purchase a commercial thread removal device such as the "Peggy's Stitch Eraser".) What do you do with non-repairable garments? 1. Create a uniform shirt for your employees by covering the damaged area with a patch. Patch can have a name or maybe your company logo. 2. Pick out the mistake and sew a large filled design or applique over it. Use the item as a display sample. 3. Depending upon the mistake you may be able to use it as a display sample without any modification. 4. Donate the item to the needy. (Do not give away anything that has a company logo. That client might not be too thrilled to see a defective version of his logo in public.) 5. Save the garment in a scrap box. This will give you material to test-sew on in the future. www.hsi.us care@hic.us 154
