The decorated apparel market is HOT and so is your opportunity to get a share of this $47 billion* (and growing) industry. It's simple, it's fun and the demand for decorated products is growing at an all-time high. So now is the time to start your own decorated apparel business! Starting a decorated apparel business is much like starting any other kind of business. It involves research, planning, drive, determination, a vision and courage. Though some people think that having equipment is all it takes to create a business, they are incorrect. Just like any other enterprise, there are many factors that play a part, including: sales, marketing, budgets, pricing, sourcing, accounting, etc. All aspects of business must be addressed and understood in order to achieve success. To fully understand this concept you must realize that you are creating a BUSINESS that does Decoration (with the emphasis being on BUSINESS), rather than doing Embroidery as a business. In other words, focus on the business aspects first and the embroidery aspects second. Once you have a firm grasp on this concept, then you can begin to understand that there is a process for starting a new embroidery business that goes beyond searching for the best embroidery machine. In fact, before you go shopping for Equipment, you must develop a basic business model that identifies who your customer is and how you plan to service them. Only then will you be ready to look for equipment, as the machinery that you buy should be chosen based on what you need to service your customer, not on what is the lowest priced machine. Many new decorators make the mistake of buying a machine before they have defined their business. Unfortunately, many of them quickly come to realize, that they are improperly equipped to service their clients. Don't make this mistake. Take your time and do it right. Gather all the information first, before committing the dollars! Reliable information is the most valuable asset you can have. That is why we have created the How To Start A Decorated Business Survival Guide. If you have solid information, then you will be much better prepared to make well-informed decisions concerning your business enterprise. Never jump into a business with your eye closed! Gather as much information in advance as possible, then lay it out in an organized manner so that you can see what you have. Review and analyze it. Ask yourself pointed questions such as "will this market support my business?" Many times the answer will not be what you want it to be. That's okay. The concept is to focus in on ideas that will work and to eliminate or avoid the areas that won't. Eventually you will have enough information to make informed decisions. Then and only then can you move forward. www.hsi.us care@hsi.us 3
