Higher Sewing Speeds Most commercial machines can sew as high as 1200 stitches per minute, though in reality, most Embroiderers run their designs at around 800 spm. Most hobby machines have a maximum speed of 400 spm. USB Flash Drive Designs are created using a separate software program on a PC, then transferred to a USB Flash Drive, which can be inserted into a USB port on the machine. New systems have an option of transferring designs via a data cable (LAN) from the computer to the machine. These are some of the primary advantages that commercial machines such as Tajima offer over hobby machines. But there are a myriad of options offered by different manufacturers that provide even more tools and sophistication. Such items as narrow cylinder frames for sewing full length on sleeves, special framing devices for holding those impossible to hoop items, automatic oiling systems and even safety devices that automatically stop the machine if your hands (or those of little ones) get too close to the sewing area. The commercial machine companies stay focused on developing and improving machines to ensure that you always have the cutting-edge equipment necessary to be competitive, efficient and ultimately, profitable. Used Embroidery Machinery There are Pros and Cons to buying a used embroidery machine. Actually, there is only one advantage to buying a used machine and it may not prove to be such a great advantage after all, and that is price. Used machines do tend to be cheaper than new ones. However, with some of the top-of-the-line machines such as Tajima, the resale value tends to stay at higher levels, such that the difference in price between a new machine and one that is only a couple of years old is very small. The disadvantages of buying used machines are as follows: • No Training - Most used machines do not come with training. • Minimal Warranty - If a used machine has a warranty it's usually no more than 30 days. New Tajima machines offer a 2 year warranty. • Unknown Problems - As a novice embroiderer, you probably don't have the knowledge necessary to spot problems in a used machine. • Obsolete Equipment – Many machine brands and/or models are no longer manufactured which means parts and service are probably not available www.hsi.us care@hsi.us 23
